Shizukuishi Watch Studio

The spirit of Shizukuishi resides
in its watches.

Shizukuishi, taking strength from its awe-inspiring natural surroundings in northeastern Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, has embraced nature’s undaunted spirit to shape the very heart and soul of its watchmaking industry with an equally uncompromising devotion to quality craftsmanship. Each watch, imbued with a spirit that seems immortal, enables time to tick by ever so naturally.

山力水

Empowered by the solidarity of the mountain terrain,
rejuvenated by its eternally flowing waters.

The Shizukuishi Basin, surrounded by distant mountain ridges, is the cradle of mechanical watch-making. Looking north you notice in particular the sacred Mount Iwate, nestled in the basin and soaring gallantly aloft. The spring waters that well forth from deep within crisscross the face of the mountains bringing vital water far and wide throughout the countryside. We believe we must emulate our environment. We must remain uncompromising, inexhaustible, and undaunted, and continue to passionately devote ourselves to our work. Today, as always, we embrace the spirit of the mountains of Shizukuishi, for watches are made not by the hand but by the heart.

鐡

1,000 years go by, ringing with the sounds of iron at work.

It is said that foot bellows were used to produce iron along the Sanriku Coast in the Heian Era. From long ago Warabite swords, predecessors to the traditional Japanese sword, have often been excavated, and even now in modern times these artifacts are renowned as remnants of the Nambu ironware age. Since ancient times Japan’s Tohoku region has had an environment conducive to iron working and iron has been an integral part of the local lifestyle. There were outstanding pioneers in the past who were intimately familiar with steel and now we here in Shizukuishi represent the latest of that lineage and are carrying on this tradition. We work with iron to fashion watches, and priding ourselves as watch craftsmen and watch forging artisans, we are fervently devoted to achieving an unexcelled mastery of this metal.
